I Saw My Future in Your Eyes
Conversation performances
Marthe Ramm Fortun selects several portraits from three Bozar exhibitions (The Ottoman Orient in Renaissance Art, Renaissance Portraiture in the Low Countries and Europortraits) and invites you to reinterpret them in her performances. She looks for people and paintings that respectively transcend their time and their medium to connect with our current time. She focuses on intimate details in order to create this narrative. She improvises, refers to classical themes, and uses visual and poetic elements to create work that starts a dialogue with the audience. Her conversation performances are a quiet revolt against what Walter Benjamin called the disappearance of the oral culture.
• Marthe Ramm Fortun graduated from HISK in Ghent in 2014. Her work was on show at Performa 13 in New York and Playground 14 in Leuven’s Museum M. From 7 March to 11 April she is exhibiting at Komplot in Brussels.
