Baisse-toi montagne, lève-toi vallon

performance
18—19.03.2015

For a social and poetic world

The French-German artist Ulla von Brandenburg presents her first major theatre performance. It is a play sung by five actors and the Brussels Brecht-Eisler Chorus. They create a sort of ‘re-enactment’ of the celebrations of the Saint-Simonists in Paris between 1832 and 1835. These followers of Henri de Saint-Simon (1760-1825), a utopian socialist and forerunner of Karl Marx, set up a large, tightly organised group of thinkers, scientists and industrialists who strived to create a moral, social, political and poetic world order.

• Ulla von Brandenburg’s work was recently exhibited at Kunstverein Hannover (2014) and the Vienna Secession (2013). She has participated in exhibitions at the Sydney Biennale (2014), Witte de With in Rotterdam (2014), WIELS (2013), Palais de Tokyo (2012), Tate Modern (2007), etc. Her performances have also been presented at Performa 07 (New York) and Playground 09 (Leuven).
