The machine is man

The setting for TRAINER is a factory. Here repetition and ingrained discipline determine the rhythm. The night shift consists of three men, a woman and a girl. They assemble the set and then dismantle it. They are in the machine and are also the machine itself. The machine is man. In TRAINER, Abke Haring has created a visual performance with actors, objects and text in which rhythm, repetition and sensuality play a major role. She continues to work with the language she developed for FLOU. She writes, directs and also acts. She gathers around her people with whom she has previously worked together successfully: actors like Marlies Heuer, Ruud Gielens and Jonas Vermeulen, sound designer Senjan Jansen and stage designer Jean Bernard Koeman.

• Abke Haring graduated from Studio Herman Teirlinck in Antwerp and over the past few years has also created her own work. She has appeared at Kaaitheater in various Toneelhuis productions, and her productions Hout and FLOU have also been staged here. TRAINER is her first production for the larger stage.
