Cut in Movement

After having researched the principles and techniques of editing in short films (MÔWN) and performance (Vantage Point), Ariane Loze takes her research to the streets of Brussels.

The city is in constant movement, as passers-by involuntarily create duets, trios, choruses,... A person standing still in the moving city appears to be the main character of a short crossroad scene. In this project, Ariane Loze looks for a new continuity of the city through a montage technique that falls back on choreographic principles. Is it possible to consider film editing from a choreographic point of view? Is it actually possible to step away from narrative editing and its principles we are so familiar with as film spectators?

Can editing be considered an art or a technique that is dealing with rhythm, orientation, speed, space, and movement, in the same way as dance is? In short: Can editing be dance? And how does editing move?
