Welcome to the Jungle

Welcome to the Jungle is a performance installation inspired by ‘global weirding’, a term used to describe the effects of global warming.

You make your way through a strange and desolate landscape of mirror foil. Smells designed by the perfumer Laurent-David Garnier, curtains of mist, temperature fluctuations, wind, soundscapes and vibrations immerse you in an immaterial but very sensory route. Like the actors, you are given a costume to wear. This adds to the confusion on the route. Who is the spectator? What is body and what is reflection? Light and mirrors, open spaces and transparent barriers merge into one bewildering environment.

The choreographed chaos of Welcome to the Jungle evokes a world that no longer adheres to the normal laws of nature, a sensory jungle that excites through its abundance of pseudo-natural stimuli despite its wild plant growth. You lose all sense of equilibrium in this paradoxical habitat. What remains is the search for a new balance within an ecosystem where everything is visible and nothing is reliable. An environment dense with its own emptiness.

● Andros Zins-Browne was born in New York. He came to study at PARTS in Brussels. In 2008 we presented his first full-length performance, Second Life, and in 2009, The Host, a choreography for tough but aimless cowboys.
