Le sous sol
After Le Jardin (2002) and Le Salon (2004), the Peeping Tom collective from Brussels is presenting the final piece in its family trilogy: Le sous sol. The family is now dead and buried, but lives on underground. There are no more rules and understandings, and the family pecking order is ready to be turned upside down. It also turns out that this underground domain is occupied by various other spirits.
Peeping Tom is dance-theatre’s Almodovar. We get to see some odd characters, figures whose roots lie in circus, music hall and the fairground.
Le sous sol is the last part of the trilogy. The characters we met in the first two parts are now dead and buried. In this play Peeping Tom looks back at the lives and deaths of the members of the family with plenty of humour and puts things into proper perspective. Once again you can expect an emotional experience with bold dance scenes, theatrical passages and music sung live.
Franck Chartier and Gabriela Carrizo both danced with Alain Platel and Needcompany and are the core of Peeping Tom. The mezzo-soprano Eurudike de Beul and dancer Samuel Lefeuvre have also once again joined this dance-theatre collective. A new and extraordinary addition is their collaboration with the 80-year-old butoh dancer Maria Otal.
