Boulez, Andre & Van der Aa
Pierre Boulez is a man of precision and meticulousness, as a conductor, as an author on music, and as a composer. He is constantly revising his work and adding new material to it, so that it evolves over time. This is the case with Dérive 2, a piece begun in 1990 as a short tribute to Elliott Carter for his 80th birthday, which is now 45 minutes long and has become a work rife with tones and motifs. To offset the eddying music of Boulez, the musikFabrik ensemble performs Ni, an existential and soothing piece by Mark Andre, as well as a new soundtrack piece for ensemble by Michel van der Aa.
