Cadavre Exquis

dance
21—22.12.2005

Dance is a language
In Cadavre Exquis the French choreographer Vincent Dunoyer continues to work on elements from his previous project Solos for others. In that piece, the starting point was 33 photos of Dunoyer in various poses in motion. A study of the transition from a still image to a moving image and how one can link several poses together by a movement, the principal from which the first 'film' was born.

Dunoyer gave the same 33 photos to 33 first-year students at P.A.R.T.S. and asked them to choreograph a phrase of movement for each picture. From the material thus assembled, he composed the solo Cadavre Exquis, which he dances himself. This method is reminiscent of that of the French surrealist poets: in one of their language games one player wrote a word on a piece of paper, folded it over and passed it to the next player. The poem grew word by word, full of surprises and surreal twists and turns.

In Cadavre Exquis, Dunoyer demonstrates very clearly that dance is a language and that a choreography is 'written': just as writers find words in the images in their mind and add them together to form a sentence and then a text, the course of Cadavre Exquis passes from images (the photos) through words (the dance movements by the P.A.R.T.S. students) to the choreographic text by Vincent Dunoyer.

Notre époque est marquée par la rapidité. C'est pour cela que nous proposons Shortcuts (auparavant Fil rouge), une série que nous programmons à court terme et qui nous permet de saisir la balle au bond et de réagir à des projets inattendus et captivants. Si vous avez assisté à quatre spectacles de la série, le passe gratuit vous donne droit à un billet gratuit pour un cinquième Shortcuts.
