Prometheus

theatre
16—19.03.2011

Prometheus stole the fire from heaven to give to the people on earth. In his new creation, Jan Fabre presents him as the figurehead of proud independence and a contemporary heroism. Prometheus’ mercilessly tormented body is at the centre of the spectacular stage setting. A group of ten performers, most of whom also appeared in the highly-acclaimed Orgy of Tolerance, perform a script written by Fabre himself and another by Jeroen Olyslaegers that is based on the story by Aeschylus. Fabre uncompromisingly explores the limits of the imagination and shows us the battlefield that is our civilisation.

• At the end of the 70s the young Jan Fabre presented us with his controversial solo performances. In 1982 he shocked the theatre establishment with Het is theater zoals te verwachten en te voorzien was. Since then he has become one of the most many-sided artists on the international scene. Indeed, he still gains acclaim both in Belgium and internationally with his most recent theatre productions. Last season Jan Fabre and his Troubleyn company concluded the tour of their highly praised production, Orgy of Tolerance, in the Kaaitheater.
