Line Describing a Cone
Line Describing a Cone is a landmark in the expanded cinema of the early 1970s. By deleting the projection screen and reducing the content of the projection to a slowly progressing line, Anthony McCall changes your notions of projection drastically. The smoke-filled space transforms the light projection into a three-dimensional form – almost tangible. You are no longer a passive onlooker in the dark, but literally stand in the focal point of the screening when you cross the space. In this performative installation a minimal cinematographical setup generates an endless amount of shapes, constellations and possibilities.
