The Myth of the Great Transition

theatre
28—29.11.2014

The myth that we can live without myths

The theatre-maker Pieter De Buysser is increasingly emerging as a teller of mythical stories which for an instant turn our view of things upside down. What might he have to tell us about the myth of Progress, now that it is being overshadowed by ecological disasters and increasing social inequality? He made contact with the Icelandic anthropologist, sociologist and historian Dr. Hallgrimvilhjalmsson, professor emeritus at the University of Reykjavik. This eminent researcher was himself witness to the birth of the new myth of the Great Transition. Is this the glow of a new dawn? In his metaphorical style, De Buysser observes that the idea that we could live without myths is itself a myth.

Performance in the context of Pharmakon, a three-day performative conference.

• In March, Pieter De Buysser, together with Maike Lond, will be presenting the premiere of Immerwahr, a disconcerting WWI story based on the life of Clara Immerwahr, at the Kaaistudios.
