Yesterday's man
Yesterday’s Man is the result of the first meeting between two theatre-makers, the Lebanese Rabih Mroué and the Portuguese Tiago Rodrigues. They later met with Tony Chakar, an architect and writer also from Lebanon, and the Belgian set and lighting designer Thomas Walgrave (tg STAN).
Yesterday’s Man describes the voyage of a stranger who’s confronted with an ever changing city, Beirut. The project is based on the hypothesis that every city has another city beneath it, and below that another and so on. From time to time, and for unknown reasons, fragments of these hidden cities rise to the surface, confronting the present in the supposedly new city; they appear brusquely or hesitantly and sometimes with harshness and cruelty.
Yesterday’s Man is an attempt to overlap the present with the past and even with the unknown future.
