Kaaitheaterstudio's
In his audiovisual performance Kaaitheaterstudio?s, the Finnish multimedia artist Mikko Hynninen (b. 1972) puts the theatre in the leading role. Other roles are played by lighting, loudspeakers, microphones and extras such as a smoke generator. On a completely empty stage, they are given human traits. Kaaitheaterstudio?s is a twenty-first century ballet mécanique. Mikko Hynninen, who also works as a stage designer and sound and light technician for the Finnish National Theatre, samples his functional (and dysfunctional) material live in a mesmerizing soundtrack in the best tradition of Finnish minimal electronics.
Kaaitheaterstudio?s is a version of Kiasma Theatre, but now based on Brussels, which Hynninen presented in the theatre of the same name in Helsinki at the end of 2004 (www.avantofestival.com). The work was produced for the 2005 Argos festival, which will present an interdisciplinary programme with film and video screenings, exhibitions, performances, concerts, talks and encounters from 13th to 22nd October.
