“Ja, Frankrijk is in oorlog met het terrorisme.” Enkele dagen na de terreuraanslagen in Parijs wakkert de Franse premier Manuel Valls heel wat discussies aan. Uit enquêtes blijkt alvast dat de Franse bevolking meer dan ooit positief staat tegenover het leger. Maar wat voor leger? Dat van drones en special forces van vandaag? Of dat van WO I, met loopgraven en mosterdgas?
Filmbeelden tonen een cameraploeg in een Weens biedermeiersalon, een soldatenbordeel en – vooral – dwalend door Noord-Franse velden. Ze zoeken de juiste locaties voor een re-enactment van de slag aan de Somme. Op scène ontplooit ondertussen een gijzeling tijdens een chique event in Parijs. Wanneer de bemiddeling faalt, vallen de special forces binnen. Maar wat als de gijzelnemers vechten voor een goede zaak?
In tijden van oorlogsverklaringen, de heropleving van het natie-denken en een overdaad aan extreme, simplistische oplossingen, reikt het Frans-Oostenrijkse theatercollectief Superamas nieuwe gezichtspunten aan. Vive l’Armée ! is een reflectie op oorlog, geweld, propaganda en nationalisme. Volgens het gekende Superamas-recept zie je een continu op elkaar inspelende mix van verhaallijnen, vertaald naar tekst, beeld en muziek.
Een wervelend, filmisch totaalspektakel met veel humor. En een wrange nasmaak uiteraard. - De Standaard
Vive l’Armée raakt een historische dynamiek aan: de samenhang tussen de eerste wereldoorlog en het hedendaags terrorisme, tussen vermaak en verdrukking, cultuur en controle… Een provocerend en briljant stuk, hier toont Superamas zich opnieuw van haar sterkste kant. - Der Standard
