Worktable est une installation composée de plusieurs pièces qu’on traverse une à une. À l’intérieur, on reçoit des instructions, de l’équipement, des lunettes de sécurité et du matériel avec lequel on peut se mettre à l’œuvre. Chacun décide comment les choses se décomposent. Kate McIntosh prépare le marteau, vous faites le reste !

L’œuvre de l’artiste en résidence au Kaaitheater, Kate McIntosh, transcende les limites de la performance, du théâtre, de la vidéo et de l’installation. Ce qui frappe à chaque fois est la manière dont elle parvient à vaincre la distance entre acteur et public et sa prédilection affichée pour les images théâtrales. En une semaine, on peut voir trois de ses productions, qui oscillent de façon ludique entre science, divertissement, expérience, variété, philosophie et récits éclectiques. Dans In Many Hands, l’artiste en résidence au Kaaitheater Kate McIntosh explore le tactile. Elle nous invite à tester et toucher, mais aussi à écouter et à sentir. Avec les autres spectateurs, on expérimente – en silence – des matériaux dans une série « d’études » sensorielles. In Many Hands est en partie laboratoire, en partie expédition, en partie méditation : suivez votre flair et votre curiosité !

Flanquée de deux assistants maladroits, l’artiste en résidence au Kaaitheater Kate McIntosh, telle une grande prêtresse, se tient sur scène en robe à paillettes. Au cours d’une sorte de revue, les trois s’abandonnent à toutes sortes d’expériences domestiques, botaniques et culinaires. Dark Matter est un spectacle très amusant qui provoque en même temps un sentiment d’inquiétante étrangeté.

From 23 to 28 October choreographer and artist-in-residence at Kaaitheater Kate McIntosh is presenting three of her pieces in one week: Dark Matter (2009), Worktable (2011) and her latest performance In Many Hands (2016). Together the works show the evolution that has taken place in McIntosh’ practice: from being a stage animal to creating delicate dramaturgies, from silence to words to sound, but also the appearance of a lot of objects. We took advantage of the summer break to invite her for an in-depth interview.
