Monkey See, Monkey Do

danse
performance
17—18.12.2011

The Italian performance artyist Muna Mussie: ‘One usually looks in the mirror when one is alone. I would like to have a collective look in the mirror, together with a multitude. I like to imagine the set stage with a large mirror covering the whole backdrop. Through the use of this stage element, the intention is to bring about a sort of (con)fusion between the audience and stage spaces. The mirror curls the sight on itself. The glance is sent back to its source, both watching and being watched. This fusional glance – a sort of collective ego, a malleable collective unconscious that speculates about itself - turns out to be forced upon a much stronger resistance: the image of oneselves. The first working phase of Monkey see, Monkey do will focus on the writing of a score that will investigate the primary actions which any confrontation with a mirror. Onstage, two characters, heterozygous twin sisters , will serve as prototypes to put into focus this experience. The double is here intended as "one". It will act in total symbiotic mimesis or, otherwise, it will melt in order to meet the other and will be capable of a sort of mutation-evolution.
