Wed 16.10 - Sat 19.10.19

Damiaan De Schrijver, Bert Haelvoet and Matthias de Koning are moving into the medium of film. Where do film and theatre coalesce? Where do they clash and where do they enhance one another? Their exploration of these questions is based on a variety of source material, such as the interviews that Alfred Hitchcock gave to the likes of François Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard.

Rétrospective is Jérôme Bel’s subjective reflection on his own work. He chose eighteen dance fragments from his video archive. Through meticulous editing, he has used them to reconstruct the development of his thinking about dance. By emphasizing the links between dance and politics, he foregrounds central themes in his work. After the film screening, there will be an extended conversation with the choreographer.

Tue 05.11 - Thu 07.11.19

In 1809, Goethe wrote Die Wahlverwandtschaften, an amorous experiment not unlike Temptation Island. de KOE and Lineke Rijxman are now writing a new version. Will the characters again fall victim to their urges, the so-called laws of nature? Or will reason prevail? Using the same ingredients – two men, two women, a garden – the makers begin a completely new experiment. Seks(e)(n) is about boxes and labels, about definitions and appropriations, about freedom and malleability.

In this theatre monologue, Bruno Vanden Broecke plays one of the most legendary philosophers in history. A few hours before his death, he reflects on his life and thought. This production demonstrates that 2400 years later, Socrates’ contributions to philosophy are still as relevant as ever.

In Supersonic Flora, Walter Hus is returning to a number of pivotal pieces from his career and adapting them into brand-new compositions for solo piano. The pieces range from beautiful, radical, and minimalist compositions from the 1980s to more melodious works from the 1990s and a recent jazzy piece that he composed in memory of a friend who died.

Warning: this show is cancelled to help contain the spread of the new coronavirus.

The title The Goldberg Variations not only evokes the famous music of Bach, but also the iconic dance solo by Steve Paxton. Along with a dancer, a ballet dancer, and an accordionist, Michiel Vandevelde works with this material. Three bodies, each with very different potentialities, delve into dance history and question the potential of dance today.

These performances are cancelled because the tour has been postponed due to the coronavirus.

In the sound poem Tiresias, British author and spoken word artist Kate Tempest lets identity slip from man to woman to blind visionary. Katelijne Damen embodies the transforming character, and thus asks incisive questions about identity. Cassiers juxtaposes the voice of Tiresias with Dmitri Shostakovich’s eighth symphony.

You will be seated near the thirteen dancers and the pianists – a proximity that results in a collective shared energy.

Fri 26.01 - Sat 27.01.18

In their characteristic style, the ladies of Discordia break open the plot of Alexandre Dumas fils’ novel The Lady of the Camellias. They seek the assistance – perhaps surprisingly – of the Marquis de Sade. Is there space for Marguerite to have a more active role, or do shame and conventional thinking still stand in the way?
