Tijdens de interactieve ‘Urban Showcas’e expo op 30 april stellen de jongeren van Academy for Urban Action hun eerste bevindingen en resultaten voor rond het thema ‘De Stad en ik/wij’. Op het programma: tal van workshops en nieuwe tools, met onder andere een zelfontwikkeld logo, het AUA manifest, een kaartspel over stedelijke reflectie, een ‘Urban Podcast’ wandeling en een Tindereske ‘Swipe for Brussels’ app. 

Lietje Bauwens and Wouter De Raeve will exhibit a remnant of the WTC towers at Kaaitheater. In the 1960s, this building project was an ambitious dream; but today, the towers have already been demolished. What to do with the debris of failed modernism, the waste of contemporary capitalism? Does what is being built today on these remnants offer a worthy alternative, or do we need fresh alternatives?

WORKING TITLE FESTIVAL — Within a series of small compositions, bodies are placed and displaced in relation to each other. Playing with weight and balance, they counterbalance and shape the space between them. In the margin of the performance, Wouter Krokaert also shows the visual work that underlies it. What is explored in one area is reinforced and supplemented in another, across the boundaries of disciplines.

What does it mean to abandon yourself to sleep in a society which considers it to be an inevitable illness? Patrícia Portela invites you to an installation of four rooms, which you walk through one by one. Chef Annick Gernaey prepares a 'sleeping supper' and Antarctica researcher Nathalie Pattyn (VUB) discusses the influence of light and dark on the quality of sleep.

Key figure in the Arte Povera movement Mario Merz became fascinated by the famous Fibonacci sequence in the 1970s. He translated the series into spiralling forms, igloos, and compositions with tables. CC Strombeek is exhibiting the title page and three images of such a table design.

Filip Berte’s current project focuses on the mechanism of inclusion and exclusion of uninvited newcomers in Western society. With the use of a camera obscura and a hidden digital camera, he installed a critical ‘moment of auto-reflection’ in several asylum centers. During Performatik he initiates a new phase of the project in an asylum center in Brussels

During the last Insight evening, Andros Zins-Browne is opening a one-night exhibition with work by six video artists. They focus on the real versus virtual worlds, and how political leaders use images to manipulate our concepts of freedom.
