Peter Verhelst writes and directs a piece about the dark alliance between love and violence. A man returns from a military mission during which he has committed both murder and rape. His wife knows about this, but still allows him to come back home, out of love for her daughter. Is resilience and forgiveness enough to enable you to live with a monster? Our society is obsessed with transgressors – Verhelst, however, is obsessed with those who want to (or have to) live with them. Els Dottermans plays the mother, An Miller her daughter.

Burrows and Fargion offer a chance to see their 2014 Venice Biennale piece Body Not Fit For Purpose. It is an attempt to reconcile personal politics with the difficulty of saying anything of consequence in a dance performance, all the while revealing the strange permeability of dance to any message that it meets.

Sat 23.04 - Sat 23.04.16

With Dance # 2 Christine De Smedt and Eszter Salamon continue to build on Dance # 1 / Driftworks. The first part – listening & mouthing – was inspired by Inuit throat-singing duets. In part two – words & gestures – a dialogue develops in which syllables and words become attached to movements. What does a choreography look like when it resembles a ping-pong game of question and answer?

Box with holes seeks to explore the relationship between touch and its visualisation. How do we see and experience inter- human interaction in a world where we contact each other more and more through technology?
Box with holes focuses on a displacement of the senses, which places the spectator into another mental state.

During the Day of the Dance we show a screening of IT'S IN THE AIR. In this 2008 collaboration between Jefta van Dinther and Mette Ingvartsen, the two performers jumped on large trampolines for 50 minutes. This video registration is all that remains of the intense physical challenge.

Choreographer Jonathan Burrows and composer Matteo Fargion present two of their playful, tightly composed duets. Eleanor And Flora Music is a new version of their iconic Both Sitting Duet. Subsequently, Burrows and Fargion perform Alvin Lucier's I Am Sitting In A Room. They interpret Lucier's generously open score to arrive at a performance that meditates on its own theft, even while slowly disappearing.

In Jean Cocteau’s farewell monologue The Human Voice (1927) – in which you see and hear a woman phone her ex-lover for the last time – the telephone plays a merciless role. It is only the woman’s reactions that hint at her absent ex’s replies. Who is it on the other end of the line? Now Ramsey Nasr presents his version of events, again directed by Ivo Van Hove.
