PERFORMATIK 2015 - With their ritual, circular movements dancing dervishes (Sufi Muslims) attempt to reach a state of religious transcendence. For A Possibility of an Abstraction: Square Dance Germaine Kruip asked the dervishes to break through the circle and introduce square patterns into the dance ritual.

Arnold Schönberg’s Verklärte Nacht (1899) is inspired by a poem by Richard Dehmel, about a woman who tells the man she loves she is pregnant by another man. In 1995 Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker created a group choreography based on Schönberg’s composition. She has now rewritten the piece as a duet. A shameless romantic love story in the dark light of a Verklärte Nacht (transfigured night).
