For many performing artists, rituals are an essential part of their practice. They integrate them into bodily routines, or use them as tools to organize daily life, work rhythms, creation processes, or the moment of a performance. In light of RE:RITE, we invited an array of artists and researchers to reflect on their usage of ritualistic elements during a day full of talks, interactive sharings, and… celebrations.

On 21/03, spring promises a new beginning, but also the anniversary of the attacks on Brussels. On the eve of the second anniversary of the Brussels bombings, we’re bringing together three experts on mourning. After Anders Breivik’s bloodbath in Norway, Jone Salomonsen founded a research group on new rituals as a reaction to attacks. Kristin Verellen – who lost her partner in the Brussels attacks – talks about her circle gatherings that aim to foster a culture of togetherness and dialogue. And architect Koen Van Synghel discusses (temporary) mourning monuments.

Is Brussels complex? Absolutely. Administratively, culturally, socially, economically, and demographically Brussels is anything but easy. But this complexity does not mean that you cannot understand or learn to understand Brussels. The sixth Night of Knowledge on Brussels will again explore this urban district and all its varied dimensions.

To what extent are sexist jokes a reflection of power relationships in our society? Is sexist humour innocent or not? Are you a sexist if it makes you laugh or bitter if it doesn’t? An impressive group of specialists will explore these questions in a programme with lectures, a debate and especially… lots of humour.

And not a single man has ever apologized for explaining something to me that I knew about and he did not.’ Historian, author and activist Rebecca Solnit wrote about a problem that had no name, but which has since become known as 'mansplaining'. During you lunch break, you can pull up a chair for a conversation moderated by experts from RoSa.

How much has the world changed since 1977? The demand for a new political 'account' to replace the neo-liberal 'accounting' is growing ever louder. The search for for a star to show us a new way is growing ever more urgent. RADIO ETOILE questions the power of artists and cultural centres in our current circumstances. Can they or should they lead the way? We've invited artists, thinkers, lecturers and journalists to reflect on this question in seven one-hour sessions.
