The Monastery is coming to the Kaaistudios for the fourth time, to close the RE:RITE season with a final day of rituals. You can join this experimental spiritual urban community for one ritual or for the whole day, to become conscious of your entire being and of everything going on around you. The rituals during this closing event are focused on ‘Buying Time’: how can we redefine our approach to time and our perception of public space.

Like an engineer at a control panel, Benjamin Verdonck conjures a visual elegy on the stage. From a sequence of miniature landscapes to an endless series of panels that appear and disappear, open and close. Accompanied by two musicians, Verdonck gradually gets lost in his own images.

What happens exactly when we fall asleep? What is it like to be a viewer watching other people fall asleep in a theatre, to witness this most intimate act? The Guardians of Sleep is a collective attempt to withdraw in a world that is always ‘switched on’ – and where an ‘off’ button simply doesn’t seem to exist.
