On 30 November 2015, the Moroccan sociologist Fatima Mernissi died. As an emancipated feminist and activist, she navigated effortlessly between East and West – always arriving at deep insights into the complex relationship between people, cultures and religions. A unique blues and country repertoire took shape in the southern United States at the end of the 1920s. Liesa Van der Aa and Tom Pauwels, the resident guitarist with Ictus, are together immersing themselves in roots music and coming up with a new sound of the Deep South, such as old blues numbers and songs of protest and exile.
