Schwalbe speelt vals / Schwalbe Cheats
Schwalbe speelt vals / Schwalbe Cheats
Kaaistudio's
Tue 27.11 - Wed 28.11.12

Who are we when we feel cornered? Who are we if the other is weaker? We try to save ourselves with the phrase ‘it’s only a game’, but at that point it’s already too late... In the new work by Schwalbe, the players lose themselves in the game. Schwalbe creates theatre where the body is the starting point. The physical taken to the extreme.

Fri 23.11.12

Laura van Dolron describes her performances as stand-up philosophy. ‘Stand-up means that it's funny, and philosophy that it’s smart.’  In Sartre zegt sorry (selected for the 2011 Theatre Festival), the philosopher rises from his grave to offer his apologies.

Laura van Dolron describes her performances as stand-up philosophy. ‘Stand-up means that it's funny, and philosophy that it’s smart.’ In Iemand moet het doen she wants to silence politicians – for a better world.

Tue 20.11.12

In Black choreographer Mette Edvardsen – almost like a magician – tries to make several objects appear on stage. For Forecasting, Barbara Matijević converses 'physically' with images shown on her laptop. Two short presentations on how it is possible, on stage and using minimal resources, to evoke people and things that acquire a ‘life’ – however invisible – which the audience accepts. Enthralling!

Thu 15.11 - Sat 17.11.12

In Gaze is a Gap is a Ghost , the use of video cameras gives us the impression we are looking through the eyes of the three dancers. The space appears to be moving. Gaze is a Gap is a Ghost  poses questions about the relationship between humans and technology. How do the digital media influence the way we experience our physical, bodily existence? Last season we presented Daniel Linehan’s wonderful Zombie Aporia.

Sat 10.11.12

Travelling between the West African metropolis Abidjan and the European
art and theatre scene, Monika Gintersdorfer and Knut Klassen are not
looking for a mutually inspiring intercultural exchange. Rather, the
differences and contradictions between whites and blacks are the driving
force behind their idiosyncratic performances. Together with their
performers they create theatre to the irresistible rhythm of the
heartbeat of the Abidjan club and performance scene. Every night at the
Kaaistudio’s will be an all-round happening with at least two
performances, dance, theatre, lifestyle, music and partying!

Fri 26.10 - Sat 27.10.12

In a brilliant solo called Allege, Layes combines philosophy with
Chaplinesque slapstick. He talks about freedom and the limitations and
absurdity of life. In the meantime he gives cues in light and music. And
all the while he balances a glass of water on his head. Applause,
please!
