A man and his body

Following a series of duets and a quartet, dancer and theatre-maker Pieter Ampe is going solo. During a stay in New York he immersed himself in a world of transformations, an environment where standards constantly shift and blur. Where emancipation and sexual and emotional energy go hand in hand. Are we really aware of how others see us? Of the energy that radiates from our bodies? Should we be liberated? Pieter Ampe examines this question. Although he may well seduce the audience with grand gestures, a gentle swaying of the hips also suggests this regained sensuality. Whatever the case may be, this is a solo to look forward to, this coming of age of a man and his body.

• Pieter Ampe (PARTS; artist in residence at Campo, Ghent) already has several wonderful duets to his name, including with Guilherme Garrido (Still Standing You) and with his brother Jakob (Jake and Pete’s Big Reconciliation Attempt for the Disputes from the Past) – both were presented at the Kaai Studios in 2013.
