OPEN STUDIOS

21.04 – 23.04.2023

Every year, workspacebrussels organises an Open Studios trail. Artists in residence open the doors of their studios and engage in dialogue with an audience. This year, Open Studios takes place at four locations across the city and there you can get to know a wide range of artistic talent each time. The full programme will be announced in early March at www.workspacebrussels.be. Below is a preview of some of the projects.

In the ever-evolving choreographic project ‘Basically’, Nikima Jagudajev creates temporary communities between performers and viewers. Each presentation is a unique moment that tugs at our sense of time and space.

Theatre-maker Mira Bryssinck presents a new text she worked on during her residency. ‘De Aangegrepenen’ outlines a community that seeks to reintegrate melancholic people, raising critical questions about how we treat those who are pinned the label 'mentally vulnerable'.

In ‘La conspiración de las formas’ by Amparo Gonzalez Sola, three women manipulate a block of concrete in a powerful physical and aural ritual. They transform the hard material into liquid matter that in turn leads to the singing of songs.

House artist caterina daniela mora jara will present material from a residency in which she shares a studio with other artists working around mother tongues. She will also give us preview of the book she is working on, a lexicon that makes tangible her experiences as a choreographer and performer from Argentina in Western institutions and traditions.

Workspacebrussels supports performing artists in developing a sustainable practice. During this edition of Open Studios, artists Kai Merke, Filip Vest, caterina daniela mora jara and Emile Pinault will shape the festival's in-between spaces.
