The Wonders of Multilingualism #2
Mother tongue: what's in a name?
In February, Passa Porta and Kaaitheater organised an evening during which we, together with the audience (including teachers, parents, artists, writers and academics), came up with a number of hot topics concerning multilingualism: topics that demand to be explored in depth, in conversation with each other.
The theme of the next evening in the series The Wonders of Multilingualism will be the seemingly unambiguous concept of 'mother tongue' versus the complexity and friction of experiences with multilingualism.
Once again, the focus is on mutual discussion; the series is first and foremost an opportunity for exchange, which is fuelled by short interventions. Film makers Effi & Amir will show an excerpt from their latest film By The Throat, poet Nisrine Mbarki will choose a poem and then talk about it and researcher Sofie Verraest will share her key insights from Yasemine Yildiz's book Beyond the Mother Tongue.
Passa Porta and Kaaitheater are thus building a diverse community that meets around a shared interest. We have created an accessible online environment where the exchange can continue, also between the live sessions. If you register, you will receive an invitation without obligation. Book your ticket and become part of this community!
