‘Dying the secretive death of lovers without love.’

What is more ungraspable than love? Nobody knows exactly what it is and yet to a large extent it determines our lives. Following the Weiblicher Akt series – in which women like Jocasta, Lady Macbeth, and Marguerite Gautier were granted a different end to their life story – Maatschappij Discordia is launching a series about Love as it is described by women. In this first part, the company is exploring the work of Marguerite Duras (1914-1996). Like no other writer, she was passionate about expressing the experience of love in all its incredible diversity, whether she was writing about the young girl and the older lover, the absent beloved, incestuous love, or the ménage-a-trois. In L’Amour Duras, Discordia – flanked by Margijn Bosch from ’t Barre Land – let fragments from Duras’ novels resonate with personal stories to create a unique sketch of what love is and can be.
