Exposition: KAOS / Het Vijfde Seizoen
KAOS (KunstAtelier Opperstraat) came into being under the wing of the St Alexius psycho-social centre in Elsene in 2011. The aim of this non-profit organisation is to develop artistic projects with artists, some of whom are psychologically vulnerable. These projects are invariably positioned in the setting of the broader society.
Since the start of this season, KAOS has also been organising residences. A selection of artists concentrate on a project for a couple of months, while based as residents at Opperstraat in Elsene.
Last autumn, KAOS organised its first residence in the context of ‘BesteBuren’, the year of Flemish-Dutch festivities. Het Vijfde Seizoen, a Dutch artist’s residence on the site of the Willem Arntsz-Hoeve, a psychiatric institution in Den Dolder, also joined in as a partner.
KAOS sent the Brussels artists Anne Daems and Voebe de Gruyter to Het Vijfde Seizoen, where they camped until the end of last year. At the same time, Het Vijfde Seizoen sent its former resident Milou Abel to Brussels. The work these three artists created – a combination of photos, video, installation and drawing – can now be seen in the foyer at the Kaaitheater.
