Dansaertstraat

miscellaneous
05.06.2009

As New York is to Sex & the City, so is Brussels to Dansaertstraat, a photo-novel by Johan Reyniers. In a previous life, Reyniers was the artistic director of the Kaaitheater. For Dansaertstraat he collaborated with the graphic artist and photographer Thierry Lewyllie and with actors of all ages, rank and position, amateur and professional.

Ten main characters and as many supporting characters forage in the city for a year. They have either found their destiny here or are passing through by chance. Like a serial, you can follow them in five episodes and seasons: summer, autumn, winter, spring and summer, 2009 to 2010. Behind the story lie a ‘catalogue of the city’ and of everyday urban life. Brussels itself may well be the most important character.

Five bimonthly episodes will appear in the course of next season, amounting to a sturdy volume of about 200 full-colour pages in magazine format.

As a foretaste, at 7 pm on 5th June we are presenting a free ‘pilot’ of 16 pages in the new Kaaicafé. Afterwards you can still go to the show by Fumiyo Ikeda and Tim Etchells in the Kaaistudios.
