Ever since a child, Manuela Infante has shared an endless curiosity for the unknown with her father. Yet father and daughter unfolded that curiosity in completely different ways: Manuela as an artist, her father as an astronomer. For as long as she can remember, Manuela had long conversations with him about dark matter and the origin of the universe, but there was always one concept that came back: the Horizon.

The Horizon marks the boundary between what is knowable and what can never be known. As with the sea horizon, you can try to chase it, but the horizon will move further and further away meaning that a shadow always remains; a place that human knowledge can never reach. That borderland exists not only out there at the end of our field of vision, but also in here, in our body, our psyche, our biography and our history. Things we know we will never know looks at the Horizon as an expanding, changing frontier and explores the connection between 'the unknown out there' and 'the unknown in here'. It will be an evening for talking about the things we know we will never know.

Manuela Infante Güell is a Chilean theatre-maker, dramatist, screenwriter and musician with international appeal. Known for her theatrical staging of contemporary theoretical issues, she creates work that cross the line between music, theatre and philosophy. In 2021, Kaaitheater and KVS jointly presented its show How to turn to stone. Autumn 2023 will see the première of her latest show Horizon (a Kaaitheater co-production) at KVS.

Artist Chiara Bersani and curator and producer Giulia Traversi have been collaborating for nearly ten years — and care work based on interdependence has been a big part of their time spent together. Drawing upon more-than-human and intersectional feminist accounts of care, Chiara and Giulia will open up a discussion on the many questions their joint care work has raised.
